It has been more than a year since Google bought YouTube and web-sharable video is bigger, broader and some would say better than ever. As we consider the state of the art in DIY video, how can we understand the diverse range of artistic and political practices that have emerged over the past decade? Who is making the most interesting work and to what ends? What genres and communities have emerged in these online spaces and how do they relate to the rich, pre-digital history of tactical and avant-garde media? This panel looks beyond the hype and misunderstanding of mainstream media to think seriously about the current state of DIY video and its promise for the future. The panel will be moderated by Steve Anderson, and will feature video creators Alexandra Juhasz and Juan Devis, and Sam Gregory from Witness. Henry Jenkins from MIT will be the respondent.
